BDS/04 — Engineering

Engineered herebefore it is made here

Send us a drawing, a model or just a sample part. Our engineering office turns it into a manufacturable design, tells you in writing what would make it cheaper or stronger, and hands it to the shop floor ready to cut.

BDS/EN — Services

What the engineering office does

Every service below is carried out by our own engineers, on the same software the shop floor programmes from.

01

3D models from 2D drawings

Legacy 2D prints and PDFs rebuilt as clean 3D models for CAM, inspection and your own records.

02

DFM & DFMEA review

Manufacturability comments on tolerances, datums, draft and material come back in writing before we quote.

03

Reverse engineering

No drawing? Send a sample. We measure it, model it and issue a drawing you can own.

04

Forging conversion

Parts machined from solid bar, cast or welded can often be forged instead: better grain flow, less material cut away and a lower cost per part at volume.

05

Value engineering

Material, process and machining-route changes that take cost out without touching the function.

06

Simulation & validation

QForm forging simulation and finite-element checks settle the process before steel is cut.

07

Fixture & tooling design

The dies, trim tools and fixtures a part needs are designed alongside the part itself.

08

APQP & PPAP support

Process flow, PFMEA, control plans and PPAP files prepared to the automotive standard.

BDS/EN — Forging conversion

Why forging conversion pays

If a part is machined from solid bar, cast or welded up today, ask us whether it should be a forging. A forge shop with its own machine park can answer that from both sides.

A part machined from bar with its chips, beside the same part as a forging
  • 01Grain flow follows the part shape, so strength and fatigue life improve
  • 02Near-net forging leaves less material to machine away
  • 03Shorter machining cycles free capacity and cut cost per part
  • 04One source for forging and machining, under one quality system

BDS/EN — Starting a job

What to send us

  • 2D drawing (PDF, DWG or DXF)
  • 3D model (STEP, IGES or Parasolid)
  • A sample part, if there is no drawing
  • Material specification and heat-treatment requirement
  • Annual volume and batch size

Have a drawing, or only a sample?

Either works. Send what you have and we will come back with a model, DFM comments and a quotation.
